How to Get a Mount in Final Fantasy XIV

If you’re just starting on your Final Fantasy XIV adventure and are tired of walking around, you’ll be happy to know that you can unlock a mount to make traversing Eorzea easier. It honestly comes up as part of the “tutorial” and mainline story, even. Here’s what you need to know.

So, how do I unlock mounts in Final Fantasy XIV?

There are three requirements for unlocking mounts in Final Fantasy XIV. They are:

  • Reach level 20.
  • Join a Grand Company (Twin Adder, Maelstrom, or Immortal Flames).
  • Obtain a personal Chocobo.

How do I join a Grand Company in FFXIV?

Once you reach the level 20 Main Story Quests, you’ll be given the option to join either the Twin Adder, Maelstrom, or Immortal Flames.

Complete one of the following Main Story Quests to choose your Grand Company:

  • The Company You Keep (Twin Adder)
  • The Company You Keep (Maelstrom)
  • The Company You Keep (Immortal Flames)

And then finish one of these Main Story Quests (depending on which one you picked) to officially join your chosen Grand Company:

  • Wood’s Will Be Done
  • Till Sea Swallows All
  • For Coin and Country

How do I get a personal Chocobo in Final Fantasy XIV?

Once you’ve joined a Grand Company, speak to the Grand Company Commander to receive the “My Little Chocobo” sidequest, which tasks you with purchasing a Chocobo Issuance. You’ll need 200 Grand Company Seals to buy one.

To earn the Seals, complete Grand Company Guildleves or participate in FATEs. With 200 Seals in hand, speak to either Cingur (Twin Adder), Fraegeim (Maelstrom), or Mimigun (Immortal Flames) and purchase the Chocobo Issuance from them.

You will now get your very own Chocobo, which you can use as a mount by assigning it to your hotbar in the Mount Guide menu.

Got my Chocobo! How do I get more mounts in FFXIV?

There are multiple ways of getting more mounts in Final Fantasy XIV. For example, some are tied to quests, earned through dungeons or Trials, or purchased from the Final Fantasy XIV Online Store with real money.

While you start out with just your Company Chocobo, you’ll unlock more as you progress and take on more advanced content, so don’t stress too much about unlocking more mounts right away.

Final Fantasy XIV is available now on the PC, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5.
