Final Fantasy XIV has countless different fish types for players to catch in the MMO. However, one of the trickier earlier catches you can find in FFXIV is the Desert Catfish, which requires the player to have a certain type of bait and head to a certain location in order to find it.
Where to Catch Desert Catfish in FFXIV (locations)
There are quite a lot of places where you are able to get the Desert Catfish. As you might expect, you need to be a Fisher job class for this task, and you need to head to a desert-like location. From what we can tell, these are the best spots we recommend any player to go to for this particular catch:
- Sagolii Desert, Southern Thanalan: X: 25, Y: 37
- Southern Thanalan: X: -27, Y: -37
Essentially, your goal is to head to the desert in Southern Thanalan. But the main issue with this is you must be at least level 41 Fisher if you want to be able to catch the Desert Catfish. It is possible you could be slightly lower in level than this, but I don’t recommend it, as it is not guaranteed.
Which Bait Should You Use?
The other main part of catching a Desert Catfish in FFXIV is your bait choice. As you likely already know, different fish require different bait. In the case of the Desert Catfish, these are the baits we can confirm allow you to find this fish:
- Versatile Lure
- Sand Gecko
- Sand Leech: This one is possible, but I recommend against it. For some reason, it takes much longer to find this one.
Of course, there is one other way to get a Desert Catfish. If you need it right now and can’t afford to fish for 15 minutes or longer, head to the nearest Market Board. You can buy this fish off of there for a reasonable enough price.
