How to Get Kurtz and a Restaurant in Eiyuden Chronicles

Once you reach the Euchrisse region in Eiyuden Chronicle and get to Hishahn, you’ll see potential restaurant founder Kurtz in front of the blacksmith. While the chef is eager to start cooking, he needs a specific recipe first.

How do I recruit Kurtz in Eiyuden Chronicle?

I recommend doing so immediately after reaching Hishahn, though I did wait until after I’d recruited Carrie and checked in at the local inn. You can talk to him right away and he’s quite friendly. However, he says he desperately needs the grilled tutuva recipe.

Here are screenshots I took of the map and Kurtz’s spot in the city, so you can see where he is:

The only clue he offers is that the bark people know how make it. Given this is a game with animal people, you might think that means a dog town you haven’t visited yet. But no, he’s referring to the Treefolk. Go to the second floor of the Treefolk Village. Near the trading post and in front of Squash is a random NPC with the recipe. Talk to them, and you’ll get what you need. As an aside, I don’t think you can get the recipe before meeting Kurtz, as I recall speaking with this NPC before after the Proving Grounds and not getting this dialogue.

Again, here are screenshots I took showing that Treefolk’s spot in game and on the map:

Go back to Hishahn, give the recipe to Kurtz, and he’ll join your group in Eiyuden Chronicle so you can build a restaurant.

Is Kurtz good in Eiyuden Chronicle?

Kurtz is honestly the only support character I’d consider using aside from Cassandra. This is because he could use his Food’s Up ability to cook for everyone before you start a fight. That’s a big help to get an edge and boost!

Also, it is pretty great to actually have a restaurant at your town in Eiyuden Chronicle. To build that, you need Kurtz, 80 pieces of Food, and 800 Headquarters Funds. Do that and you’ll get the place to eat in the main building and 40 more people for your town. You’ll also be able to take part in the Cooking Battle minigame, which is how you’ll eventually unlock Celia.

Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes is available on the Switch, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and PC.
