The Vespoid is always sort of a weird character in the Monster Hunter series, as its a small monster with a full equipment set tied to it. And as usual, there are different materials tied to it at Low Rank and High Rank. Fortunately, getting the more rare Monster Hunter Wilds Vespoid materials like the Carapace, Innerwing, Shell, and Wing are easier thanks to it being less of a pain to get those drops.
How do I get a Vespoid Shell and Wing in Monster Hunter Wilds?
So in the past, you ideally needed to defeat Vespoids in certain ways to acquire certain materials. This is because they’re small, delicate, dainty little murder-bees. If you used certain heavier weapons, like a Great Sword, Gunlance, or Hammer, it’d just decimate the enemy. Maybe if you faced a ton of them, you’d get one or two of these types of drops. You needed to rely on more delicate weapons, Slinger ammo, or perhaps even certain elements.
Now, the Vespoid Shell and Wing can sometimes be a bit difficult to get if you use some of the more traditional or heavier weapons, but it is 100% easier to get these items. Especially if you take the Optional Quest called “Vespoid Capriccio” that pops up after killing one in the wild. You aren’t guaranteed to get these specific drops from a Low Rank version of the hunt. However, it will be a lot easier. Just keeping at it and swatting as many of these bugs as possible will mean you’ll eventually get enough.
The Vespoid can be found in the Forest, Basin, Cliffs, and Wyveria, so the only place you won’t see these bugs is on the Plains. However, I found it is easiest to find them in the Forest and Basin when I played. In addition to the shell and wing, the monsters at this rank drop Honey and Monster Fluid sometimes too.

How do I get a Vespoid Carapace and Innerwing in Monster Hunter Wilds?
If you want the Vespoid Carapace and Innerwing in Monster Hunter Wilds, then you need to get into Chapter 4 of the campaign. That’s when the main story “ends” and the experience becomes a bit more freeform. Once you unlock High Rank armor, you’ll be able to go on the High Rank versions of hunts for Vespoids.
Just like the Low Rank ones, these items aren’t tied to specific weapon types so much anymore. They’re just sort of generally rare and can be picked up no matter which kind of equipment you’re comfortable with. The Vespoid Carapace replaces the Shell, while the Innerwing replaces the Wing. Honey remains a drop, and Monster Broth rounds out the list of four possible items you can get.
Is Vespoid equipment worth it in Monster Hunter Wilds?
Honestly? Not really. The defense isn’t great for the Low or High Rank armor pieces. Some of the skills, like Ambush, Evade Window, and Paralysis Resistance, are found on better monsters’ sets. You do get the Neoferon Alert Group Skill for equipping multiple pieces, but it’s so easy to find Honey in the wild that I don’t really think that’s worth it either. I feel like if you’re going for this set, it’s for cosmetic reasons.
Monster Hunter Wilds is available for the PS5, Xbox Series X, and PC.
