In Metaphor: ReFantazio, you can upgrade various personality stats, or Royal Virtues, for your protagonist. Doing so will open previously locked doors, allowing you to meet and befriend people on your journey.
Levelling up Royal Virtues is something you should keep in mind when playing Metaphor: ReFantazio, as there are certain characters who will not talk to you unless you possess a particular stat level. For example, Alonzo, Maria, and Brigitta will not give you the time of day at certain points of their stories unless you’ve met the prerequisite.
What are the Royal Virtues in Metaphor: ReFantazio?
There are five different Royal Virtues in Metaphor: ReFantazio. They are:
- Courage
- Eloquence
- Imagination
- Tolerance
- Wisdom
You can always check out your level via the menu. By default, it’s “9” on a keyboard and “X” (or where the square button would be on a PlayStation controller) on a controller.
How to level up Royal Virtues
As mentioned earlier, there are tons of ways to level up Royal Virtues. Each town has its own method of doing so, and you can check out the map if you need help finding someone. If you’re unsure of a map marker, you can check the Royal Virtues menu to see the icon that Atlus uses for each Royal Virtue. When you level up your Royal Virtue in this way, you’ll use up a time slot so keep that in mind as you plan out your day.
Methods for levelling up Royal Virtues include:
- Courage: Bungee jumping in Martira, polishing swords with Strohl on the gauntlet runner, completing bounties
- Eloquence: Giving speeches in town, reading “Pride and Persuasion”, speaking with Junah on the gauntlet runner
- Imagination: Clearing More’s requests, reading “New World Travel Diary”, talking with characters at night on the gauntlet runner, hearing stories from people around town
- Tolerance: Talking to Mustari around town, reading “How to Walk Outside the Island”
- Wisdom: People watching and sight seeing around town, visiting scenic locations for the first time, playing board games with Hulkenberg
While bounties will always reward Courage and More’s requests will always raise Imagination, there are some quests that can increase your other stats. For example, the “Efflorescent Youth” quest you can accept in Port Brilehaven will reward both Reeve and Tolerance. Using these quests is a very time-efficient way to better your personality, since it doesn’t take up a time slot and you can also get bonuses like items or money out of it. As you continue to progress through the game, more avenues will become available as well, such as additional books in the bookshelf and such.
Metaphor: ReFantazio is readily available on the PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X, and Windows PC.
