Season 1 of Marvel Rivals is introducing some brand new characters to play as: the iconic Fantastic Four. Players will be able to utilize this classic team of heroes to dominate matches. The Fantastic Four consist of: Mr. Fantastic, Human Torch, Thing, and Invisible Woman. Another powerful strategist to control the battlefield with, Invisible Woman’s abilities are impressive. However, you might find yourself unsure of when and how to apply them. You might not know how to play as Invisible Woman in Marvel Rivals. Before you lock-in, here’s a few tips and tricks to elevate your playstyle, and maybe score a couple of MVPs in the process.
How to Play as Invisible Woman in Marvel Rivals
At first glance, Susan Storm’s abilities might seem a bit underwhelming. Other strategists have movesets that allow them to deal considerable damage under the right conditions. Invisible Woman’s moveset is almost exclusively focused on providing support through healing and crowd control effects. Your success playing as Invisible Woman will rely entirely on proper timing when activating these effects, and maintaining consistent healing on your allies. That being said, Invisible Woman can still contribute some damage to team fights in her own way.
Ruin Positioning, Punish Chasing
Many of Sue’s abilities can affect her opponents’ movement. Psionic Vortex draws enemies to the center of where it’s activated. Force Physics can push enemies away from her, or pull them closer. Guardian Shield will block damage and heal allies standing near it. Enemies who walk through it will also be slowed. Her ultimate ability, Invisible Boundary, will slow all enemies within its radius. It’s prudent to use these abilities to increase your own survival, but their utility can be applied in many other scenarios.
Pay attention to the enemy team’s movements. If a vanguard is shielding their team, flank the side and use Force Physics to throw them out of position. If a duelist is chasing down your fellow strategist, activate Guardian Shield to trick them into walking through it. This slows them down and can save your teammates. Synergize Psionic Vortex with AoE ultimate abilities, like Iron Man’s Invincible Pulse Cannon, or Jeff’s “It’s Jeff!” If you find yourself out of position or being focused after pushing enemies around, use your Veiled Step. Not only does it push you forward to escape, it also activates your invisibility, giving you a clean getaway to return to the backline.
Take Advantage of Bottlenecks
All of Invisible Woman’s moves affect relatively small areas. Therefore, she’s more effective on maps featuring narrow entryways. Maps like the Hydra Base have small spaces teams are forced to push through in order to win. As Invisible Woman, a great idea is to maintain control of these bottlenecks by Psionic Vortexing them as the enemy team advances, then push vanguards away or pull low HP heroes towards your team. When your ultimate ability is active, try placing the bottleneck within its radius. This will forcefully slow enemies inside of the bottleneck, making them easy pickings for your allies’ AoEs and high-damage attacks.
Take note: this advice works better when playing defense than offense. Invisible Woman is better as a defensive pick, but she can still be useful on offense as well. Guardian Shield can work as temporary cover for teammates trying to push through these narrow corridors. Alternatively, you can deceive enemies by placing a shield down to make them believe you’re advancing from one direction, and then try flanking. In the event you have a Vanguard with shielding abilities, a Guardian Shield will buy them time to regenerate their own shield, giving your team’s push an extra bit of distance. Regardless of which side you’re playing on, avoid open areas and focus on the bottlenecks.
Orbs Pierce
Once you understand how to aptly apply control effects, it’s time to combine them with your basic attack function. Invisible Woman’s Orb Projections pierce through characters, and then return to her. Orbs damage enemy heroes, and heal allied ones. Because of this piercing property, it’s possible to both heal and damage at the same time- preferably behind a beefy vanguard protecting you! What’s more, the orbs will return back to you, giving you the opportunity to deal damage or heal twice with one attack. Guardian Shield your teammate, stand behind them, and fire away at the enemy. Throw out Psionic Vortex, and use your piercing attacks to heal aggressive melee teammates while you add damage to their barrage. Use Force Physics and Psionic Vortex to group enemies up and fire away, cutting through all of them for a wide distribution of damage.
Keep in mind, all of this is easier said than done. There’s going to be many factors at play from match-to-match. But by remembering these areas where Invisible Woman excels, you should be able to create impressive displays of skill.
