How to Recruit Gale in Baldur’s Gate 3

There are quite a lot of companions to recruit in Baldur’s Gate 3, and one of the best is Gale. He’s a mysterious Wizard with a dark past. Players can recruit him to their party pretty early in the game, mere moments after completing the prologue and escaping the Nautiloid ship.

To recruit Gale in Baldur’s Gate 3, you must first complete the prologue. Once done with this, head to the Roadside Cliffs fast travel point near you at the coordinates of X: 223, Y: 326. When you arrive here, look for the glowing waypoint marker on the side of the cliff.

As you walk to it, a cutscene will ensue and a hand will stick out of the portal. What you want to do here is help the person in question—Gale—escape that awkward predicament. There are a couple of ways to do this, including forcefully pulling him out or using your magical expertise.

Regardless, you will more than likely have to roll the dice to ensure you succeed in rescuing him. I suggest saving in the main menu before rolling the dice, which the game allows you to do. This way, even if you fail, you can reload the game and instantly try again.

After you pull him out of the chaotic portal or shut it down, Gale will be grateful and immediately join your party. If you have a free spot, he will instantly join the team. You can also send him to the camp if there are already four characters in your party.

You don’t necessarily have to recruit Gale as soon as you complete the tutorial, but it is best to do so then, as there will quickly come a point of no return in Act 1 when you aren’t able to do so anymore.

Baldur’s Gate 3 is available on the PC and will release for PS5 on September 6, 2023.
