How to Recruit Richmond in Suikoden 2

Richmond is one of 108 recruitable Stars of Destiny in Suikoden 2, representing the Chiyu Star. As well as being a requirement for the 108 Star ending and “108 Stars Together” Achievement/Trophy, recruiting Richmond also unlocks the Investigation feature.

How to recruit Richmond and win his coin flip in Suikoden 2

You can recruit Richmond in Suikoden 2 as soon as you’ve officially established your HQ. Head to Radat, southeast of Kuskus and far east from Headquarters. If you haven’t got it yet, the Suiko Map is extremely helpful when trying to find your way around the overworld.

In Radat, head to the Appraisal Shop to find Richmond outside. Talk to him and select “Richmond, please join us.” He will agree to join your party if you win his coin flip. The problem is that Richmond is a dirty cheat, and you will always lose. Agree to flip the coin once, then give up (for now).

Walk into the tavern to the north and speak to the man sitting at the bottom table. The man will laugh in your face and tell you Richmond is a cheat and is using a trick coin. Thankfully, he’s kind enough to give you a genuine coin to use.

Return to Richmond and select “Here, use this coin.” No need to try and win an actual coin flip, as Richmond will be impressed and join you!

Bonus tip: Walk into the garden to the east of Richmond with Freed Y in your party to recruit Yoshino, another Star of Destiny.

Suikoden 2 Investigations

While you can’t add Richmond to your party in Suikoden 2, he does have a use back at HQ. Richmond can investigate characters in exchange for anywhere between 100-800 potch. Investigating characters reveals information such as characters’ birthdays and backstories.

Investigations are a fun bit of flavor and aren’t required for any type of progression. An investigation takes around ten real-world minutes to conclude. You also need to leave the room and return after the ten minutes are up.

As mentioned previously, the 108 Stars ending and its associated trophy, “108 Stars Together,” also require Richmond. If you’re going for this ending, make sure you managed to recruit Gilbert earlier in the story.

Suikoden I and II HD Remaster Gate Rune and Dunan Unification Wars is available on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch.
