How to Reunite Dion and Harpocrates in Final Fantasy XVI ‘A Tail to Tell’

Once you get close to the end in Final Fantasy XVI, you’ll get a chance to take on a quest called “A Tail to Tell” involving Dion and Harpocrates’ past. While it doesn’t offer the most exciting rewards, it’s one of those endgame ones that gets very enlightening.

How to find and take “A Tail to Tell” in Final Fantasy XVI

The Dion and Harpocrates “A Tail to Tell” Final Fantasy XVI sidequest comes up once you’re about to head off on the mainline mission “Back to Their Origin.” It isn’t one you’ll just see on the map at the hideaway, though. This is one of those quests you need to find in the Missives section at Clive’s desk in his room first.

Going there, you’ll find a letter from Harpocrates. He wants to “make amends” and reunite with Dion. The two of them share a past. After getting the note, you’ll need to head to the loresman to find out exactly what’s going on and how you can help. From there, you’ll learn he wants to give him a Wild Wyvern Tail flower. (This is a variant of the one we often saw Dion with earlier in the story.)

To get that flower, you need to go the Kingdom of Waloed map. Specifically, you want to go near Rikmal’s Roost in The Angry Gap area. I highlighted the exact spot in the screenshot of the map below.

Okay, so the spot to find the flower is pretty obvious. There’s an indicator showing it, and it’s where I highlighted above. However, is there is a level 38 Akashic Lindwurm in the area. It isn’t associated with the quest in any way and you don’t have to fight it, but it is hostile and you can’t pick the flower when targeted by an enemy so you’ll probably need to face that foe.

Pick the flower and head back to Harpocrates, then go talk to Dion. You’ll see a scene between the two characters. For your efforts, you’ll get 9,600 EXP, 30 renown, a Stolas Quill curiosity to decorate Clive’s room and a Bahamut’s Mercy accessory.

Final Fantasy XVI is available for the PlayStation 5. A demo is out now as well. There is a six-month exclusivity period.
