- In Chapter 2: A New Journey Begins, speak to Tifa in Kalm after Cloud wakes up in the Inn.
- Choose: “The Place I made that promise to you.”
- Complete “A Rare Card Lost” side quest in the Grasslands.
- In Chapter 4: Dawn of a New Era, speak to Tifa in the Under Junon hotel.

The second major story moment happens in Chapter 6: Fool’s Paradise. After arriving at Costa del Sol, Cloud will be tasked with finding a swimsuit to gain access to the beach. To fix your date at the Gold Saucer, reload an older save and look at your “Quest” menu for any side quests tied to Tifa that you haven’t completed. However, the most important quest here is the new “My White-Haired Angel” mission in Nibel. In my playthrough, I changed my date from Barret to Tifa by just completing this one quest.
If all else fails, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth actually has a new game-plus mode that lets you change your Gold Saucer date after the main story. It should also be pointed out that you can mistakenly not get Tifa as a date if you raise the bond of other characters too much.
