How to Save All Companions in ‘High Price to Pay’ in Starfield

One of the turning points in Starfield main story happens during the “High Price to Pay” quest. During this mission, players have the option to defend the Constellation Lodge or head to The Eye. Beware though, as massive spoilers appear ahead in this guide for the story, so don’t read on if you haven’t gotten to this quest.

Editor’s Note: There are Starfield “High Price to Pay” spoilers, especially regarding companions, below.

During these “High Price to Pay” segments, there are two Starfield companions you’ll have the option to save, but the game doesn’t tell you this. It picks from the four core companions you have. This means Sarah Morgan, Barrett, Andreja, and Sam Coe are in danger.

From my experience, the two companions happened to be ones I was the most connected to. That meant Sarah and Barrett were in danger. If you stay behind and defend the Lodge, the person on The Eye — Barrett in my case — dies when you go there. The opposite happens if you head to The Eye first. Which may make you wonder if you can save all of your companions in Starfield High Price to Pay?

How to Save All Companions in the Starfield High Price to Pay Quest

To answer your question, yes, it is possible to save all of the companions in this quest. However, I found it is not possible on your first playthrough. This is there to up the stakes and insert an emotional climax into your story that is painful to experience.

The only way I can find so far to save all of the companions in the “High Price to Pay” quest is to redo it in a Starfield New Game+ run. When you replay the game, you’ll have to replay the main story, instead of skipping it.

Once you get to “High Price to Pay,” you’ll have a special conversation option you can pick that you couldn’t before using your prior knowledge of the events. This way, you’ll be able to outsmart The Hunter and stop him from killing your ally. There are other costs you’ll have to pay instead, but they are nothing compared to losing a potential friend or romantic partner.

Starfield is available for the Xbox Series X and PC.
