If you’ve just jumped into Sanctuary for the first time in Diablo IV and are looking for the save button to end your session, here’s what you need to know about how to save. Basically, don’t worry about it!

How do I save my game in Diablo IV?

You don’t! Not manually, anyway. Because Diablo IV is an online game, your session is saved to Blizzard’s servers constantly. This happens even if you’re playing solo. Each time you even so much as move your character, your progress is saved, thanks to the real-time saving feature.

That said, Dungeon progress is not saved. So if something happens while you’re in one, like if your game crashes or you experience internet connection issues, you’ll be back at the beginning the next time you log in.

While not having to remember to save often is nice, this does mean you need to tread lightly when making certain decisions like selling or salvaging loot, as you cannot undo them. (I accidentally salvaged a unique item, and I’m still bummed about it. Don’t be like me!).

Diablo IV is available now on the PC, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, and Xbox One. If you’re starting your Sanctuary journey on PC, here are the best settings you should be using.
