Pop-up Camps are an essential part of life in Monster Hunter Wilds. These are small bases you can set up in each part of the world and use as a fast travel spot or place to regroup. However, there is a limit to them. So while you might want to have as many Pop-up Camps as possible in Monster Hunter Wilds, how many you can actually build is limited by your progress.
How do I set up a Pop-up Camp in Monster Hunter Wilds?
Well, the first one in each region basically is set up automatically as you go through the story. When you start out in the Plains, you first one is at that tutorial spot where you choose your first weapon and head out to slay your first Chatacabra. The first Forest one is part of the pop-up camp tutorial and Wubwub introduction. Similar situations arise in the Basin, Cliffs, and Wyveria.
From there, you need to explore. As you wander around locations, you’ll hear feedback from your companions Alma and the Palico suggesting when a certain spot might look good for a Pop-up Camp. Quatreflies, which look a lot like Scoutflies, will also be hovering near it. You can use your Item Bar’s Camping Kit to set up a spot, if you have room.

However, I recommend heading to a base camp and either talking to the Pop-up Camp Meowster or Support Desk there, whichever is around depending on the location, to manage your Pop-up Camp and build new ones. This is because I feel you get a better sense of context for where each one is on the map and if it would be advantageous for fast traveling and gathering. (You can also edit the appearance with them.)
Once you establish one, it will show up in the Fast Travel list for an area under the name of the region where it is located. So using the Basin as an example, the first one shows up as Makeshift Camp, as that was the initial one founded in the story. However, because I set up two others, they appeared listed as Area 8: Middle Strata North and Area 13: Limestone Cavern.
How many Pop-up Camps can I have in Monster Hunter Wilds?
When you first unlock the feature, you can have a total of three Pop-up Camps in any area in Monster Hunter Wilds. This remains in effect until you get into Chapter 4. However, as you proceed, that cap will go up. Which means as long as you have enough points to cover the 25 point fee, you can establish more. So spend more time raising your Hunter Rank and completing added campaign quests, and you could get up to four.Â
