How to Solve the Dwarves’ Vault Puzzle and Beat Gigantes in Suikoden

During Suikoden‘s story, players must break into the Dwarves’ Vault to convince the Chief of Dwarves that humans stole the Burning Mirror. This guide covers how to solve the locked door switch puzzle using “beeps” and “boops”. Plus, how to defeat Gigantes, the boss that awaits you inside.

In Suikoden I HD Remaster, the solution to opening the Dwarves’ Vault is written on the tablet at the bottom of the area. Unfortunately, “*beep* *boop* *boop* *boop* *beep* *beep* *beep* *boop* *boop*” doesn’t give us much of a clue on its own.

Each “beep” means left, while each “boop” means right. Translating the tablet gives us the following directions:

  • Left
  • Right
  • Right
  • Left
  • Left
  • Left
  • Right
  • Right

The directions above are the order in which you must step on the switches to activate the vault. Step on the left once, right twice, left three more times, and the right twice.

In the original version of Suikoden, the tablet instead said, “Fiddle dee diddle dee piddle dee doo,” which wasn’t helpful in the slightest. Thankfully, the directions are exactly the same in both game versions.

Once you open the Dwarves’ Vault door by stepping on the switches in the correct order, head on in. Head east and south before continuing north to collect Mega Medicine and some potch.

Go north, down the stairs, and into the next area. Head down the first corridor and turn west to pick up a rather convenient Escape Talisman. When you’re healed up and ready, go down the center stairs and follow the path to face Gigantes.

The key to defeating Gigantes is keeping your party members healed. Use Valeria’s Falcon Rune; if Pahn is in your party, use his Boar Rune, too. When a character loses balance, use them to heal whoever is close to dying. As with all bosses, Soul Eater (sadly) won’t one-shot them.

If you’re on Normal difficulty and really struggling, there’s no downside to changing the difficulty to Easy in the settings. I won’t tell anyone just this once, I promise.

Once you defeat Gigantes, enter the next room and head up the left hallway for a PROT Rune Piece. Then, go back and walk up the middle one for the Flowing Water Cane you came for. To escape the Dwarves’ Vault, retrace your steps or use the Escape Talisman we found earlier.

Suikoden I and II HD Remaster Gate Rune and Dunan Unification Wars is available on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch.
