How to Start FFXVI Echoes of the Fallen DLC

The FFXVI Echoes of the Fallen DLC is now available, but those wondering how to start it need to get to the very end of the game. This is because, as Square Enix noted, you need to have completed some end-game quests tied to certain characters.

Basically, you need to be in the endgame if you want to begin the FFXVI Echoes of the Fallen DLC. This is right before you hit the “point of no return” that takes you into the last quests and locks you out of returning to Cid’s Hideaway. As Square Enix pointed out, this is the quest “Back to their Origin.” That quest needs to be unlocked, but you can’t start or be in the middle of it. This quest unlocks after “Streets of Madness” and the events in Waloed.

However, there is another requirement that must be fulfilled to see the option to start Echoes of the Fallen when talking to Charon at Cid’s Hideaway. You need to have unlocked and finished the Jill sidequest “Priceless.” This is because getting to that optional mission means you also completed one for Joshua called “Where There’s a Will.” If you’ve been doing all side quests as they come up, these should automatically be available around the same time as “Back to Their Origin.” If you haven’t, Square Enix pointed out completing “Cut from the Cloth” and “Phoenix, Heal Thyself” are prerequisites.

If those quests are all done and you’re at that point, go talk to Charon at her stall. That’s right outside Clive’s room at Cid’s Hideaway. When you talk to her, you’ll find there’s an “Echoes of the Fallen” dialogue option between the Browse Charon’s Toll one that lets you shop and “Ask about Goetz” option. This gives you the “Echoes of the Fallen” quest and lets you face new enemies, like Omega, and get new accessories.

Final Fantasy XVI is available for the PS5, with the Echoes of the Fallen DLC out now. The Rising Tide DLC will appear in Spring 2024. A PC version of the game is also on the way.
