How to Change Formation in Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes

Despite being a modern JRPG, switching around your party in this game is a lot harder than you might expect. For starters, it is broken down into parts: changing formation and actually adding and removing party members in your current party. Changing the formation of your team with the existing party members is quite easy.

You just open up the main menu, navigate to the Party Formation screen, and you can move characters around. Unfortunately, the catch is you can only move characters that are currently in the party. This means moving someone from the front to the rear, moving a weakened character to the support, and so on. You can’t add anyone new in this way, though.

To note, front party members take the brunt of the damage, and rear is for ranged characters to take a little less damage. The single support slot is to get a special boon from certain eligible party members. Attendants are basically your reserve party members, but they haven’t gained XP from my experience so far.

How to Switch Party Members easily in Eiyuden Chronicle

For a large part of the game, you can only switch party members in Eiyuden Chronicle at a single place: inns. These places, including similar ones at your home base, are the only places where you can actually browse through all of your Watch members and add and remove them from your party.

This limitation is super frustrating, but there is a way to change your party members while out in the field. Unfortunately, to do this, you have to play the game until you unlock the home base. Then, you’ll get Cassandra soon after in the story. Add Cassandra as your sole support and you’ll be able to switch party members at save points in the world. You still can’t do it anywhere and anytime, but it helps a little bit.

Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes is available now for Nintendo Switch, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.
