South of Midnight has one of the most inventive visual styles for a game in recent memory. The movie-like quality of the animations and art style is something that developer Compulsion Games should be proud of. But some players may not like the Stop Motion Effect in South of Midnight and want to turn it off.

What the Stop Motion Effect Does
The Stop Motion Effect is exactly what it sounds like: it adds a visual flair to the animations for the characters, enemies, and world in general in this game. It is similar to the more comic book movie-like setting for the Marvel’s Spider-Man games and some of the suits in it. It affects the frame rate of the experience and gives it a movie-like style.
I will say that the Stop Motion Effect is quite unique in this game. I, personally, appreciate it but it can also be a bit hard for the eyes sometimes. Fortunately, it is possible to turn this off if you would like. What this does is smooth out the animations and make them more akin to other typical action-heavy games.

How to Turn Off the Stop Motion Effect in South of Midnight
If you want to turn off the Stop Motion Effect in South of Midnight, all you need to do is start by opening up the main menu. From there, you need to navigate to the options and settings for the game. Then you want to select the Gameplay category. It is under here that you will find this setting and be able to turn it on or off.
I recommend everyone try playing the game with it on by default at first. If you don’t end up liking it, feel free to disable this effect. That said, it is worth mentioning that even if you turn this setting off, it will not affect cutscenes. Cutscenes will still play out with this effect on them; just not when you’re actually playing the game.
South of Midnight is available right now for Xbox Series X/S and PC.
