How to Unlock Thornmarch Hard in FFXIV

Another mandatory Trial in FFXIV, this fight will see you face off against Good King Moogle Mog and his retinue of knights. What was once a fight that required you to take down specific members of his Moogles-Guard is much easier now.

To unlock Thornmarch Hard, you must pick up the quest “You Have Selected Regicide,” which is part of the Main Scenario Quest. This means that there is no way to avoid it.

The requirements to enter the Trial are as follows:

  • Level 50.
  • Item Level 54.
  • Accept the Quest “Hail to the King, Kupo.”

As mentioned previously, this fight was a little more difficult before it was changed once most content in A Realm Reborn was updated. All you need to do is kill King Moogle Mog’s knights (including the Black and White Mage) and then burn him down. This fight will also teach you about specific markers that will show up in future content.

There is no Normal version of this fight.

How to Unlock Thornmarch Extreme in FFXIV

Unlocking Thornmarch Extreme is a little more demanding than other Extreme Trials. You will not be heading to the Wandering Minstrel, instead, you will go to The Waking Sands and speak with Uriganer at X:6.0, Y:4.9 to pick up the quest “The King Lives.”

Upon following this quest chain, you will gain access to Thornmarch Extreme, which is more or less comparable to how the fight originally ran. I suggest running the fight unsync if you just want a clear or partying up with friends if you really want to do it as intended. This encounter is a little rough around the edges, so you’ll need to communicate with your team and burn down Moogles in specific orders, or you’ll end up facing the King’s wrath. (You’ll wipe).

You will need the following to enter Thornmarch Extreme:

  • Complete Thornmarch Hard.
  • Item Level 80.
  • Level 50.
  • Complete the Main Scenario Quest “On the Property of Primals.”

Final Fantasy XIV is available for the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and PC. The Dawntrail expansion will release in Summer 2024.
