How to Access Your Chocobo in FFXVI Rising Tide

After you start the FFXVI Rising Tide DLC you will be taken to a new region called Mysidia by boat. The only problem is you will quickly realize you do not have a mount while exploring this new land. That is because you need to unlock your Chocobo in the FFXVI Rising Tide expansion by completing a side quest.

To unlock your Chocobo in FFXVI Rising Tide, you need to complete the “Bird of Passage” side quest. The quest can be easy to miss at first, as most players will want to unlock Leviathan in FFXVI Rising Tide quickly. We’ve got you covered! Below are the steps to unlock your Chocobo in Mysidia:

  • Travel to the town called Haven in Mysidia and speak to Manda near the Chocobo pen next to the north exit.
  • Agree to help Manda to unlock the “Birds of Passage” side quest.
  • Access your Map and fast travel back to Martha’s Rest in Rosaria.
  • Take the south exit of Martha’s Rest and look for Rowan by the Fallen Gate marker.
  • Speak to Roawn, the Chocobo trainer, and he will give you two Mimett Gourd items.
  • Fast travel to Northreach and walk through the town. Take the north exit into the Royal Meadows and meet with Manda’s father on the cliff near the coast.
  • Give Manda’s father the Mimett Gourd, and a cutscene will trigger with him bringing your Chocobo mount Ambrosia to Mysidia.
  • You will now be able to summon Ambrosia in Mysidia while in the open-world sections of the region.

How to Complete Bird of Passage FFXVI Rising Tide quest

The first step is fairly easy. After you start the Rising Tide quest, Shula will take you to her town of Haven. Before you progress the main story, head to the town’s north exit, where you will find a girl next to a Chocobo pen named Manda. Speak to her to unlock the “Bird of Passage” quest.

Manda will then request that you bring Clive’s Chocobo Ambrosia to Mysidia. After speaking with her father in Haven, you will need to fast travel back to Martha’s Rest in Rosaria. Once here, take the south exit and find Rown to get the required Mimett Gourd item.

You should recognize Rowan, as he’s actually the Chocobo Trader that first gives you Ambrosia back in the main story. The NPC will recognize Clive and automatically give him the needed food items for the Bird of Passage quest.

Next, fast travel to Northreach in Sanbreque and travel through the city. Keep traveling through the north exit to end up in the Royal Meadows. You can now find “rendezvous with Manda’s father” on the Cliff near the coastline.

Finally, give the Mimett Gourd to Manda’s father to complete the Bird of Passage quest. A cutscene will now trigger, which will show Ambrosia being ferried over to Mysidia. This will unlock your Chocobo Mount in FFXVI Rising Tide.

Once Ambrosia has been brought over to Mysidia, you can summon the mount at any time. However, this will only work in the open-world segments. So if you can’t summon your Chocobo mount right away, exit Haven and then try.

Final Fantasy XVI and the Rising Tide DLC are now available on PlayStation 5.
