Once you get your Mega Ring during the Pokemon Legends: Z-A campaign, both Pokemon who are and aren’t capable of Mega Evolution will end up with moves that become Plus Moves. This is a mechanic that allows them or characters who can Mega Evolve but aren’t in that state to use a strengthened version of an attack to deal more damage. However, it does require a little extra input on our part.

How do I use a Plus Moves attack and abilities in Pokemon Legends: Z-A

First of all, you don’t unlock this mechanic until AZ gives you a Mega Ring to fight the first Rogue Mega Evolved Absol. Once you do, then you’ll notice sometimes when a Pokemon levels up in Pokemon Legends: Z-A, you’ll see a messages saying their attacks or abilities became Plus Moves. When you use that Pokemon in a battle, you’ll see an icon with a + on it next to a move with that status.

If your Pokemon is Mega Evolved, you don’t need to worry about or do anything else. Any time they attack in Pokemon Legends: Z-A, their Plus Moves will be upgraded to the more powerful version. If your Pokemon isn’t Mega Evolved or doesn’t possess that capability, then you need to press the + button on your Switch or Switch 2 system. Doing that will cause the type icon on that move to become more pronounced in the UI, to highlight it is powered up. The Mega Evolution gauge in the bottom right will need at least one bar of power to use one of these Plus Moves, so you can’t spam those attacks.

Here’s a screenshot I took of a fight, so you can see what to look for in the UI.

After getting further in the campaign and getting access to the Justice Dojo, you have the opportunity to trade Seeds of Mastery earned through things like the online ranked multiplayer or regular gameplay to change moves into Plus Moves. Now, this should only be done with moves learned via TM. If a Pokemon can normally learn an attack or ability via leveling up, that could naturally become a Plus Move as they level up. Just talk to Josee at the spot below on the map to get more Plus Moves. She is on the south side of the dojo, wears a white karate gi, and has her blond hair in a red headband. She’ll also have a dialogue box above her head that says, “Use your Seeds of Mastery to get more Plus Moves!”

Here’s what to look for and where to go:
