Boruto: Naruto Next Generations, commonly known as simply Boruto, acts as a spin-off and sequel to Masashi Kishimoto’s Naruto. It focuses on Naruto’s son, Boruto Uzumaki. The manga was written by both Kishimoto and Ukyo Kodachi, the latter of whom stepped down, prompting Kishimoto to take over as lead writer. In April 2023, the first part of the story concluded. A continuation, titled Boruto: Two Blue Vortex began serialization in August 2023. An anime adaptation aired from April 2017 to March 2023, and a second part is on the way. That sounds like the perfect time to jump in and familiarize yourself with the Boruto manga and anime.

How to Read the Boruto Manga

It goes without saying that the Boruto manga, as an extension of the Naruto story, can be purchased from many of the same sources as Naruto. In June 2023, it was announced that Boruto: Naruto Next Generations concluded with 20 volumes. The second part of Boruto’s journey is called Boruto: Two Blue Vortex and began serialization on August 20, 2023. The Boruto manga is available at physical retailers, such as Target and Barnes & Noble, as well as online sources like Amazon.

With Boruto: Two Blue Vortex, as it’s ongoing, the Shonen Jump and Mangaplus apps are ideal places to read the new chapters. The spin-off series Boruto: Saikyo Dash Generations and the light novels have yet to be translated and released in English regions yet.

How to Watch the Boruto Anime

As for the Boruto anime, which released in 2017, it acts as a prequel to the manga’s story. Oftentimes, the anime will feature slice-of-life scenes that explore the everyday lives of the characters, rather than thrusting them into life-threatening situations as often as the manga does. Boruto can be viewed on Hulu or Crunchyroll. Alternatively, individual episodes can be purchased on Amazon Prime Video, Vudu, Youtube, Apple TV and Google Play Movies. As far as the 2015 movie, it can only be purchased through Apple TV and Amazon Prime Video.

Physical DVD and Blu-Ray copies of the movie and the show can be purchased physically through retailers like Walmart and Amazon. The anime ended with Episode 293, “Farewell.”

With the second half of the Boruto manga well underway, there’s no better time for a re-read/rewatch.
