At Hudson’s press conference they had more to talk about than a new Mario Party title. In the works for the Nintendo DS is Elemental Monster, a new project by Hudson. Elemental Monster has five elements: fire, water, wood, light and dark and these elements are broken into two relationships. Light and darkness clash while the other three elements have a round robin relationship where water bests fire, fire burns wood and wood beats water. The major twist in Elemental Monster is the reverse system where cards have two sides. You might have a weak monster on one side and a strong monster on the other. If things aren’t going your way in battle you can flip the card over and use the reverse side to surprise your opponent. When you execute attacks in the heat of battle they are played out with 3D attack sequences like the one in the screenshot on the right. I’m not really big into card RPGs and Elemental Monster doesn’t look like it’s going to change my mind, but if you’re interested there are lots more screenshots here.
