Square-Enix and Hangame, who is working on Meteos Online, are teaming up on a new MMORPG project called Concerto Gate. Yousuke Saito who was the executive producer of Star Ocean: Till the End of Time and Radiata Stories is reprising the same role in Concerto Gate. While Concerto Gate is a MMORPG it shares a lot more in common with console RPGs. You can set up a party with other players, but only the leader can move. The rest of the party members follow behind the leader in a typical RPG snake formation. Sticking with the console RPG formula you run into random battles too. There is a sign up sheet for the closed beta and if you’re living in Japan you can register here. 10,000 applicants will be chosen from the participant pool to start playing. Concerto Gate is scheduled to complete testing by April and players will need to pony up dough to play Concerto Gate in May (clarification: NHN is opting for the pay for item system like Maple Story, players can log on for free). The story begins with a boy and a girl falling from the sky into an unknown world…
