While Nintendo pushed 3D into people’s pockets with the Nintendo 3DS, Miis popping out of the TV probably won’t be a selling point for the next Nintendo console.
During an investor’s conference, Satoru Iwata, CEO of Nintendo, felt the degree that 3D TVs have spread into the market has not been far. Because of this it is hard to make 3D the focal point, Iwata said to reporters.
Instead, Iwata said with the next system Nintendo has a chance to offer something new to the home console market. Whatever the new feature is Nintendo is not talking about it yet. The new system will be unveiled at E3 with a target launch in 2012, but after March 2012.
Meanwhile, Nintendo plans to sell the Wii in other territories including China and other developing countries. A launch could happen as early as this year. Nintendo already has a handful of Chinese localized games including New Super Mario Bros., Wii Sports, and Super Mario Galaxy 2 from Nintendo of Taiwan.
