Journey Art Director’s New Game ABZÛ Explores The Depths Of The Ocean

Giant Squid, the studio of Journey art director Matt Nava, showed off their first project at Sony’s press conference this evening, called ABZÛ, a game about an adventure that takes players into the depths of the ocean to discover secrets and encounter majestic creatures.

According to the description, ABZÛ draws inspiration from a deep, innate story that we all carry in our collective subconscious, a universal origin myth that resonates across cultures.

The name “ABZÛ” is also a reference a concept from the olderst Mesopotamian mythology, a combination of two ancient words “Ab,” meaning ocean, and Zû, meaning to know. Put the two together, and it means “ocean of wisdom”.

ABZÛ will make its debut on PlayStation 4.
