Square Enix still hasn’t said much about the future of Dragon Quest, but they haven’t completely forgotten about their pillar series either. A new trademark for Journey of the Cursed King, the subtitle for Dragon Quest VIII, was registered in the US. This trademark replaces the original trademark which expired on February 28, 2014.

The difference is the new Journey of the Cursed King trademark adds in "on-line games" and "handheld video game units" as part of the goods in services. Perhaps, Square Enix is considering to bring over the smartphone version of Dragon Quest VIII?

Square Enix Europe also registered a trademark for Mechanical Apartheid. No word on what that is, but it sounds vaguely connected to the Deus Ex universe.
