Chris Kohler has an excellent article over on Game|Life where he highlights four different kinds of gamers and what drives their spending power. Part of his analysis focus on the almighty dollar, which might be one of the reasons why the Wii is “winning”. The $249 price tag appeals to parents, casual gamers and the deeper wallets of the hardcore crowd. So let’s reverse the situation. What if the Playstation 3 was $249 and the Wii was $600. Would it sell? Could it still capture the “expanded audience” of gaming grandparents and Bejeweled addicts?
