Instead of playing as yakuza members who are out to get collect their debt, Kenka Bancho 6: Soul & Blood is about high school thugs who fight each other to find out who is the most badass kid in town. The game’s latest trailer shows us more.
The video starts out with a little introduction with protagonist Daigo Asahina arriving at the new school, and he sounds pretty disappointed that there aren’t any real challenges because of how it’s filled with weaklings.
However, Ryoji Katagiri isn’t going to have any of that, and he looks like he’s going to be one of the first actual challenges for Asahina, even though his red-haired friend Uzaki tries to stop him from fighting.
At 1:24 in the trailer, we get a look at some of the extra activities you can do in Kenka Bancho 6. While you might not be able to go out drinking and gamble like in the Yakuza games, there are actually plenty of extra mini-games that you can freely be a part of.
In Kenka Bancho 6, You’ll follow the life of a high school student for three years, where you’ll do everything from studying for tests, getting a part-time job, and even fall in love with the heroine Chihiro Nanase. The events are told in a new comic-style, but the series’ “Menchi Beam” stare-down feature is still there for when eyes between thugs meet. The special attacks for fights can be customized to your liking, so you can also have your own style.
Around 2:29, the video demonstrates some of the sandbox features and mini-games of Kenka Bancho 6. When you’re not getting in trouble by the cops, you can play card games and mahjong. There are also various sports to play such as surfing, beach volleyball, and fishing. If sports aren’t your thing, you can also go hit on girls or play dress-up to change your looks while doing so.
For those of you who prefer to fight against other players, the Ranking Battle mode will let you put together a team of five thugs to take on others via online fights.
Kenka Bancho 6: Soul & Blood will release in Japan on January 15, 2015 for Nintendo 3DS.
