As the final announcement showcased on the September 2026 Nintendo Direct, Nintendo revealed Kirby and the World Beyond as a new game in the platforming series. The new Kirby game will release on Spring 2027 for Nintendo Switch 2, a year which marks the 35th anniversary of Kirby.

This new game seems to be the first one on the series to go open world. The reveal trailer showed some classic Kirby transformations and new mechanics. For example, Kirby was shown gliding across the open field on a spinning platform or using an umbrella.

Exploration on the grassy plains area showed in the trailer looked similar to the gameplay featured in 2022’s Kirby and the Forgotten Land. Coincidentally, this was also the first Kirby game to not be a side-scrolling title, instead featuring fully 3D exploration.

Doubling down on the new open world design, the final part of the footage showcases the sky rupturing and Kirby tearing apart the walls of his confinement to reveal an even bigger area awaiting him.

Kirby and the World Beyond is currently in development for the Nintendo Switch 2 and is expected to release on Spring 2027.
