Kochadaiiyaan the Legend: Reign Of Arrows is a smartphone game based on a South-Indian movie of the same name. South-Indian movies, if you didn’t know, don’t always come under the “Bollywood” banner. Instead, within India, the movie industry of the South-Indian state of Tamil Nadu is dubbed “Kollywood,” due to the fact that most of their studios are based in the district of Kodambakkam in the city of Chennai.
Made by Gameshastra Solutions Pvt. Ltd, the game follows titular character Kochadaiiyaan as progresses through different environments in an effort to defend his land from an invading army.
The game plays a lot like the Epoch games. Duck behind pillars or roll out of the way of enemy fire as you shoot down your enemies. The key is to know when to come out from behind cover—come out too early and you’ll get shot.
However, the difference between Kochadaiiyaan and Epoch is that you don’t have an arsenal of guns at your disposal. Instead, you only have a simple bow and some arrows. Getting a headshot will kill an enemy straight away, but it’s not that simple. Not only do you have a mere few seconds to shoot before the bad guys do, but it’s fairly difficult to aim, too.
This makes Kochadaiiyaan’s gameplay more strategic than your typical shooter. If strategy just isn’t your thing, luckily there are a few temporary power-ups you can buy with in-game coins. One power-up allow you to shoot explosive arrows, another brings a reign of arrows down on your foes, and so on.
On top of that, there are two permanent upgrades available for purchase. One boosts your health, the other your damage. Simple stuff, but they definitely come in handy later in the game!
