Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom Sales Pass 20 Million

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom eached 20 million sales, Nintendo announced. This makes it the ninth best-selling Switch game since the console’s release.

Nintendo made the announcement as part of their latest financial results. Tears of the Kingdom was the best-selling first-party Nintendo game released in 2023. Super Mario Bros Wonder and Pikmin 4 also sold well, sitting at 13 million and 3 million copies respectively. Overall, 20 first-party titles crossed 1 million sales within the last financial year.

The success of The Super Mario Bros Movie also led to increased sales for the Mario series across the board. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe did especially well, selling 8 million units within the past financial year. It remains the best-selling Switch game, with total sales of 61 million.

According to Nintendo, here are the current best-selling Switch games to date, with The Legend of Zelda sales for two titles covered in the list:

  1. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe – 61.97 million
  2. Animal Crossing: New Horizons – 45.36 million
  3. Super Smash Bros Ultimate – 34.22 million
  4. The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild – 31.85 million
  5. Super Mario Odyssey – 27.96 million
  6. Pokemon Sword and Shield – 26.27 million
  7. Pokemon Scarlet and Violet – 24.92 million
  8. Super Mario Party – 20.66 million
  9. The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom – 20.61 million
  10. New Super Mario Bros U Deluxe – 17.45 million

Overall, Nintendo made 490 billion in net profit during the past financial year, an increase of 13 percent on the previous year. However, Switch sales have declined slightly, dropping from 17 million units sold in 2022/2023 to 15 million. However, Nintendo have confirmed that a successor to the Switch will be revealed within the current financial year.
