Long before Yo-kai Watch, Level-5 had plans for a turn-based horror RPG for PSP, called Ushiro, which was announced in 2008. There hasn’t been much said about it since its cancelation, but it looks like it’ll be back in light novel form. [Thanks, Game Jouhou.]

According to the report, the light novel version is called Ushiro: The Displeased Death God, which will be based off the canceled PSP title, and published by Kadokawa and Fields. Riu Goto will be the author while toi8 will be in charge of its illustrations.

Level-5 even had a trailer for the PSP game. You can check it out to get an idea of what it was like:

While there hasn’t been any word on reviving the title in video game form, Ushiro: The Displeased Death God’s first volume publishes today, with the second volume releasing sometime in January 2015.
