Lips, Inis’ Xbox 360 karaoke game, is designed for parties. Naturally, Lips comes with party games and “Kiss” is one of them. In this mode two players sing and match gestures with the motion sensitive microphone while moving towards the middle to share a kiss. This is…. an interesting evolution in co-op play. I totally didn’t expect this. The other two party modes are more standard. Vocal Fighters has two players sing one on one in a battle to collect the most fans and Time Bomb is a cooperative singing game where singing on key stops a bomb from exploding.
Unlike Singstar Lips sort of works with your MP3 library. Lips can use DRM-free songs from your collection and import them into the game in freestyle mode. However, these songs won’t have lyrics and it isn’t clear if Lips will use vocal stripping technology either. Freestyle mode might just be a sing a long with a gesture controlled custom music video.
Lips ships with forty songs and the content should vary by region. These are the tracks included in the North American version:

Additional songs will be sold as downloadable content starting with Love Estelle’s “No Substitute Love” and if you pre-order Lips at Gamestop or Amazon you get one free song a week for two months. The free songs are from the Zune Marketplace so there is a possibility they are vanilla MP3s and not Lips specific tracks.
At least six other versions of Lips exist. Five are planned for Europe and there is an Asian region version too. What about Japan? Lips won’t be coming out there.
