Lona: Realm of Colors – A Miyazaki-Inspired Look At Understanding Someone Through their Art

Lona: Realm of Colors follows its heroine as she attempts to deal with life’s difficulties through painting them, capturing her sorrows in living images that slowly trap her in a conflicting world of chaos and darkness.

Inspired by the works of Miyazaki, Lona: Realm of Colors takes players into painted interpretations of Lona’s emotions and story, tasking players with manipulating two different sides of her feelings through item puzzles and cute companions. With the chaotic, carefree Ms. Schmidt the cat, and the logical, dark Mr. Ruppel the crow, players will slowly build up an understanding of events by seeing the images from both sides.

Players can freely flip between the surreal, colorful world of Ms Schmidt and the cold, methodical world of Mr Ruppel, taking items from one side and bringing them to the other. Whatever the player chooses to move or manipulate has an effect on both worlds, and as players alter their position or uses, they will unveil hints about Lona’s story and the particular misery that fueled the painted world they’re standing in.

“Our vision for Lona: Realm of Colors was pretty much shaped by the magical world of Hayao Miyazaki. We enjoyed, learned and lived with the masterpieces of Miyazaki and our choices of Visual Development for Lona is our sincere tribute to the master.” says the game’s developers of the game’s artistic inspirations, which can be seen on their Kickstarter page.

Players looking for more information on the game’s inspiration and its adventures in artwork can head to the Lona: Realm of Colors’ site.
