Luocha in Honkai: Star Rail Benefits From Attacker-Only Teams

Luocha is the first limited five-star Abundance (healer) character in Honkai: Star Rail, and he’s got the chops to match that honor. With a strong kit and naturally high healing percentages, he’ll help you in a lot of late-game content or against difficult encounters. However, to make the most of Luocha’s kit in Honkai: Star Rail, you really have to put him in teams that can make the most of his myriad of healing talents.

Unlike Natasha and Bailu, whose Ultimates essentially double as a panic button for when your whole party is on the brink of destruction, Luocha’s Ultimate is an offensive one. His Skill and Ultimate each can provide a stack. When Luocha gets two stacks, he’ll generate a Field in which attacking enemies will heal either the attacker or the party (excluding the party) based on a percentage of Luocha’s ATK. So basically, you should have as many attackers as possible.

Another thing to keep in mind when using Luocha is his Prayer of Abyss Flower. This is his Skill, but it has the chance of activating every two turns when someone’s HP drops below 50%. This will not consume Skill Points, making it a pretty cheap way to get enough stacks to activate his Field. But characters with strong shields such as Gepard will keep ally HP high enough that this auto-heal will almost never occur.

Who should (and shouldn’t) run with Luocha:

Luocha has the best synergy with Destruction, Hunt, or Erudition characters. Units you should consider running Luocha with include:

  • Dan Heng
Dan Heng has naturally abysmal DEF and his Hidden Dragon Trace Ability kicks in when his HP is below 50%. This won’t interfere with Luocha’s auto-heal and will protect him if Luocha’s Talent is on CD or it’s not his turn yet. By this logic, other Hunt characters like Yanqing also greatly benefit from having Luocha’s healing Field.
  • Himeko/Jing Yuan
Any Erudition character with an automatic follow-up attack such as Himeko or Jing Yuan will benefit a lot from Luocha’s Field. Follow-up attacks from their Talents count as “their” attacks, so they will get healed, helping with their survivability.

Luocha is absolutely terrible with Preservation units because they get in the way of his healing. Don’t worry about having to protect Luocha. His base HP and DEF are decent enough that you don’t need a shielder. Characters you should avoid running with Luocha include:

  • Gepard/Fire MC
In general, any Preservation character is bad for Luocha because they don’t attack enough to make use of Luocha’s Field and they actively prevent him from using his auto-heal. Truthfully, Luocha is such an effective healer that he eliminates the need for a Preservation unit.

Here are some Luocha teams you can try out in Honkai: Star Rail:

Taking the above information into consideration, it’s clear that Luocha benefits the most from a party mostly consisting of damage dealers. The great thing about the guy is that you can shove him into almost any party and call it a day. You can try running him as the sole healer in the following teams:

  • Dan Heng/Serval/Asta/Luocha
The above characters are examples that you can swap in and out depending on your own party. In general, you just want to have a DPS, a sub-DPS, a support, and then Luocha. If you’re doing Forgotten Hall, then a single Luocha on one team can free up both Natasha and a cleanser (like Bronya) for the other.
  • Welt/Yukong/Silver Wolf/Luocha
This is less a party taking advantage of Luocha and more a party focusing on Silver Wolf. But with Luocha (and Yukong) now available in the game, you can create a mono-Imaginary party. A mono-Imaginary party will utilize Silver Wolf’s Skill to impart Weaknesses, and Luocha will serve as the main healer of this team.
  • Seele/Bronya/Tingyun/Luocha
Luocha’s Field only lasts for two turns or until he dies. So characters like Seele or Bronya that can manipulate how many times they act per turn are great for maximizing the heals from it. Tingyun is to boost Seele’s attack since this is a Seele hyper-carry comp.

Honkai: Star Rail is readily available on mobile devices and Windows PC. Ps4 and PS5 versions are in development.
