Bandai Namco Filmworks has published plans to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the anime studio Sunrise, which will fall in 2027. One of the new projects will be Armored Trooper Votoms: Die Graue Hexe, a new anime show that will launch in 2026 with Mamoru Oshii as its director. Production I.G., of Ghost in the Shell fame, will also help Sunrise produce the new title.
Die Graue Hexe, which means “The Gray Witch” in German, will add a new story to the series that premiered on Japanese television in 1983. The latest anime adaptation of the series prior to this announcement was Armored Trooper Votoms: Chirico’s Return, which appeared as a single OVA episode in 2011.
Sunrise has also published the first trailer for the new Votoms show on Bandai Namco Filmworks’ YouTube channel:
The Sunrise studio formally debuted with the launch of Invincible Super Man Zambot 3 in October 1977. Bandai Namco Filmworks announced that it will celebrate the studio’s 50th anniversary throughout the three years surrounding the exact anniversary year in 2027, from 2026 to 2028. Other than Mobile Suit Gundam Hathaway: The Sorcery of Nymph Circe, Sunrise is also known to be working on a brand-new Macross anime show as of early 2026.
Armored Trooper Votoms: Die Graue Hexe will air in 2026.
