Nintendo announced that Japan is getting a pre-release online tournament for Mario Tennis Aces before its release, and it’ll take place at the start of June with a save data bonus for the game.

Here’s an announcement trailer for the online tournament:

The tournament starts on June 1 at 6:00pm JST and will be available until June 3 at 11:59pm JST. The purpose of the online tournament is to get players from across Japan to try out its tennis battles that come with new aimed shots and acceleration features.

While it’s called a tournament, it doesn’t mean that it’s over after one loss, as players will get to challenge it as often as they like during the event and will acquire points based on victories. The total points and winning rate data will be announced on a leader board on the official website afterwards.

Additionally, the Pre-Release Online Tournament will be different than the full game’s Online Tournament. The pre-release version will start you out with four characters but by acquiring points you’ll get to unlock more to have up to nine playable characters.

Lastly, those who participate in the online tournament will get Mario’s “Overalls Mario” outfit for the full version of the game.

Mario Tennis Aces releases worldwide on June 22, 2018 for Nintendo Switch. A Mario Tennis Aces Top Players Tournament featuring the top-8 best players from the online tournament will take place on June 24, 2018 at the Makuhari Messe.
