Square Enix shared the latest on Dragon Quest XI with the introduction of new party member Sylvia, as well as info on a couple new monsters and plenty of system details in the latest issue of Jump magazine.

Sylvia

“To bring smiles to everyone around the world is my mission!”

A new party member who joins the protagonist following Camus, Veronica, and Senya. He appears to be a traveling entertainer, but his way of speaking is…

Mokokkii

(The koala-looking dude on the upper part) A new monster with a giant needle that he uses to puncture anything with a bunch of holes.

Lantern Kozou (Lantern Kid)

Originally a lantern that was thrown away, now a monster with a strong feeling of resentment towards humans. It also notes that there are monsters that only appear at night, which includes Lantern Kozou.

System Details

As part of the new system details,  when approaching an NPC in the PS4 version of the game, you’ll hear their voices through their speech bubbles. On 3DS, you’ll see speech bubbles marked in purple to indicate requests.

There will be horses to mount for traveling, and you can also hit monsters while mounted on a horse.

And finally, the new camp system allows you to camp at certain parts of the map. Doing so lets you save, converse with party members, heal up, or buy items from traveling merchants.

Dragon Quest XI releases for PlayStation 4 and Nintendo 3DS in Japan in 2017. The game is also in development for Nintendo Switch.
