During this year’s Tokyo Game Show, Konami revealed that Ground Zeroes will in fact be the “opening” to Metal Gear Solid V, and showed off some gameplay footage at the event. While we still don’t know just how Ground Zeroes will be released, series creator Hideo Kojima shared a few details in this week’s Famitsu.
According to Game Jouhou, who summarized key parts of the interview, the theme is “race” and the keyword of the game is “retaliation”.
The prologue known as Ground Zeroes will have the same game system as the main game of Metal Gear Solid V, but some of the UI (User Interface) will be different. One part that Kojima added a lot of emphasis to is how large the fields of Metal Gear Solid V will be, which is something he’s discussed in the past as well.
Ground Zeroes is set to take place the year after the events of Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker, and Metal Gear Solid V will take place nine years after that. Rather than restricting the players, the game is being designed to allow players to act more upon their own thoughts to make choices.
When asked if we’ll be able to play Ground Zeroes before the release of Metal Gear Solid V, Kojima responds by saying, “Hmm, please wait just a little longer.”
Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain is currently in development for PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360 and Xbox One.
