Rubi: The Wayward Mira’s heroine has many handy abilities that will let her deal with monsters and platforming obstacles in this pixelated Metroidvania, all of which will help her deal with her former friends and save Earth.
Rubi comes from Casimir, a dying planet. It is steadily burning out due to the harvesting on Mana, which they use to power many things, but the resource has become scarce and the people are becoming desperate. Rubi is one of the few people who cannot use Mana, which makes her an unlikely hero when her and a few of her people are mysteriously brought to Earth. While she has no interest in the new Mana they find there, her allies soon turn on her in their need for it, driven into more dangerous, feral forms.
Players are free to explore six different zones of Earth, using platforming powers like her double jump to sneak through defense systems or bypass environmental hazards. She also has a particle gun that can be aimed in several different directions, letting her hit enemies all around her. She can also teleport through small walls, which will let her quickly zip through some difficult situations, as well as unveil some secret paths that may be hard to see.
Players can upgrade their abilities by collecting Strings that defeated enemies leave behind, powering up an ability tree that will let players improve her in different directions.
Rubi: The Wayward Mira is currently raising funds on Kickstarter. It is projected to release in Fall 2018.
