Digital distributors like Steam may have gifting features. This allows someone to send a copy of a game to someone else. Such an option is currently unavailable on console storefronts, but Microsoft is working on it for the Xbox One. Mike Ybarra, Xbox Vice President, mentioned the company is preparing the feature.

The topic came up when a Twitter user asked how long it would be before Xbox One users could gift a new game to a friend. Ybarra replied, “Not far!” An actual release window has yet to be announced, but that reply suggests it could be close.

On the Xbox user voice website, the “Gift to a Friend” purchase option has received 4,732 votes from users.
