Monster Hunter Movie Trailer Features Gun-Toting Soldiers Firing on Monster

The official teaser trailer that released today for the upcoming Monster Hunter movie gave viewers a glimpse of one of the film’s monsters. It also showed Mila Jovovich’s character, Artemis, looking shocked from her place behind a large, vehicle-mounted machine gun.

Before that sentence raises too much concern, it is worth noting that the characters probably won’t spend too much time running and gunning the way you might expect them to do if this were a war movie. The plot of the movie finds Lt. Artemis and her crew, who are also depicted in the trailer, transported to an unfamiliar world inhabited by monsters that are more or less unaffected by the guns.

The film is being directed by Paul W.S. Anderson who also directed Resident Evil, another property owned by Capcom. Anderson has stated before that he has been a fan of the games for a while and he believes Monster Hunter fans will recognize the world, characters, creatures, and callbacks to moments from earlier games.

Mila Jovovich, who starred in the Resident Evil films, has played the games, too. In an interview given earlier this year, it was revealed that Jovovich’s character, Artemis, would wield the same Dual Blades in the film as Jovovich used in the Monster Hunter games. We’ve also seen an image of Artemis carrying a Slinger and another of her with a Giant Jawblade Great Sword that looks far more suited for the setting.

The film, formerly expected to release on September 4, 2020, has been delayed due to the pandemic. Monster Hunter is now slated to release in December of 2020.
