Moons of Madness takes players to the first scientific outpost on Mars. Playing as astronaut Shane Newehart, they will have to deal with the loneliness of their task and the duties of their job, all while being buffeted by horrific visions.
Moons of Madness looks to tell a story of Shane’s failing mental state as players explore the planet and their surroundings. Beyond what they learn from searching the environment, players will also pick up on bits of the story through Shane’s frequent hallucinations, which the developers call Zone-Outs. During one of these times, shame will have a vision that ties together bits of his past, his potential future, and information about things he would not normally know. Through these, players will be given frightening hints of what’s to come, as well as some back story on the protagonist.
When not being afflicted, players will be able to work with Shane’s complex exploration equipment and space suit, using these facilities and devices to get around the planet and find some unsettling places that lurk beneath the red surface. Much of this equipment, as well as other aspects of the story and machines in use, has been created from research into factual science, giving players realistic tools to use on their journey.
Moons of Madness is currently in development, and is expected to release in Q2/3 of 2018.
