Sanrio and Takara Tomy announced a new Sanrio Characters Sushi 2 collection of gacha toys that will appear in capsule machines in Japan. They are set to appear starting around September 8, 2025, and it will be 300円 (~$2) for a try.

There are five characters represented in this run, and each one involves a different type of sushi. In almost every case, the piece of fish is on the character’s back, with the exception of Pompompurin, who is inside inari. The announcement only showed Badtz Maru, Pekkle, Kuromi, Hangyodan, and Pompompurin, and it didn’t clarify what type of sushi everyone one of them is. Badtz Maru is otoro nigiri (fatty tuna), Kuromi seems to be ebi nigiri (shrimp), and Pompompurin is very obviously inari. It looks like Hangyodon could maybe be tako nigiri. I also think Pekkle might be hamachi nigiri (yellowtail).

Here’s how those will look:

The first run of these Sanrio characters sushi gacha toys appeared in March 2024. Those were also 300円 (~$2) per try. That selection also featured five mascots, with Cinnamoroll, Hello Kitty, Keroppi, My Melody, and Pochacco standing with food on their backs.

This is a pretty common theme for Sanrio collections. Thank You Mart also sold merchandise with a similar theme. The characters looked like they were inside or part of the sushi, rather than featuring pieces on their back, however.

The Sanrio Characters Sushi 2 gacha toys will appear in gashapon capsule machines in Japan starting on September 8, 2025, and it’s unknown if or when we could see these toys worldwide.
