My Nintendo Japan Switch 2 Sales Requirements Lifted

Nintendo announced that it changed the conditions necessary to purchase a Switch 2 (either the domestic Japanese version or the global multilingual one) from My Nintendo Store in Japan. This is likely a response to the raise in prices that occurred in the country and is planned to happen worldwide. This limitation didn’t exist in other regions.

Prior to the change, you needed to have over 50 hours of playtime on your Nintendo Switch. This excludes free software or demos. For every Nintendo account you had, you could get a Nintendo Switch 2 (either version). The change now removes the playtime limitation. Anyone, regardless of if they owned a Switch or played paid games on it enough to reach 50 hours, can now get one from My Nintendo Store. They simply need a Nintendo account.

On May 25, 2026, Nintendo raised the prices of the Nintendo Switch and Switch 2 to account for “various changes in the market.” The Switch 2 once cost 49,980 JPY for the domestic Japanese version. It now costs 59,980 JPY, which converts to around $377.20. The multilingual version of the Switch 2 remains at the same price it was before. The United States, Canada, and Europe will also raise the prices of the Switch 2. The changed prices will start appearing on September 1, 2026.

As a reminder, to purchase the Nintendo Switch 2 via My Nintendo Store, you will need to be logged in. If purchasing from My Nintendo Store, you can only buy one per account.
