New plans for the .hack series start with .hack//G.U. Unlike .hack//fragment, which is a multiplayer online RPG, G.U. is a pseudo online RPG similar to the original series. There are currently three games announced in the G.U. set, with a whole new set of characters. The main story starts 7 years after the last .hack game Quarantine with Haseo another online player in “the World”. Tentatively .hack://G.U. volume 1 is going to be released in May, volume 2 in September and volume 3 comes during out in December 06. To follow along with the new game, Bandai is creating a new anime series called .hack//Roots set for release around the same time as the G.U. games. The animation will air on TV Tokyo and follow the games even more closely than .hack//Sign did.
