The announcement was teased by Square Enix’s Tetsuya Nomura last week, when he stated that new information for the upcoming game would be published on April 9, 2021. The release date also falls on the 14th anniversary of the original game’s release.

Along with the release date announcement, the TWEWY JP Twitter account also urged people to watch the debut episode of The World Ends With You: The Animation. This comes a day after the animation was forced to change their opening theme, after one of the band members that worked on the song was arrested.

Here’s the official Japanese announcement trailer below:

The new announcement trailer features a host of new and returning characters, as well as interactions between the protagonist and his companions. Additionally, a new group known as the “Shinjuku Reapers” will be joining the Reapers’ Game.

Most notably, Neku will also be making a return in the story of NEO: The World Ends With You. Towards the end of the trailer, Rindo is seen calling a hooded figure “Neku” during a flashback confrontation with Tsugumi.

NEO: The World Ends With You will release internationally for the PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch on July 27, 2021. A PC release through the Epic Games Store is also planned for Summer 2021.
