The first developers panel at the conference revealed a lot of new additions to the world of Final Fantasy XI. The expansion pack is adding in Chocobo Breeding. Now you can raise a giant yellow chicken and race it in game. Your pet will change its shape depending on how you take care of it. Also one of the developers said that there would be different colors, although none have been specifically announced. All of the hardcore players will be happy to know that players will have access to a Mog Locker. Mog Lockers essentially expand the amount of items a player can store by 30 items. Another brand new feature to Treasures of Aht Urhgan is a coliseum mode. The mode is a throwback to the other Final Fantasy games where you can battle monsters in arena.
A lot of the focus was on one of the new online events, besieged mode. Remember the intro video where you watch a town under attack from monsters? Now it can happen in game. As soon as monsters raid a town you automatically join the fight with all of the other players in town. Besiege mode is a brutal fight to the death, but if you happen to die you won’t loose any experience points. We’re hoping to get a chance to try out a besieged event later today.
