Next Fire Emblem Makes Permadeath Optional

Lose a unit in Fire Emblem and they’re gone from the story. While permadeath adds intensity to battles, it also frustrates players who just want to soak in the story. Fire Emblem: Mystery of the Emblem – Hero of Light and Shadow has a solution that should please both crowds.

In this Nintendo DS remake, permadeath is optional. Choose classic mode if you don’t mind losing allies or want an extra challenge. Players can defeat permadeath by starting the game in casual mode.

Fire Emblem: Mystery of the Emblem – Hero of Light and Shadow also has character customization. See, that’s you (with the war paint) in the game! The player created character, called a My Unit, plays a key role in the story and even has his/her own side story.

Fire Emblem: Mystery of the Emblem – Hero of Light and Shadow comes out in Japan on July 15.
