Every year since it started in 1987, finance magazine Nikkei Trendy posts the Top 30 Consumer Hits list, as well as the Face of the Year. Using this list, one can see market trends from the past year. Items can range from applications to movies to food to entire companies.

Uma Musume: Pretty Derby is the second item on the list. Though it only came out this year, Uma Musume: Pretty Derby was the third highest-grossing mobile game in May. By September, it also accumulated over 10 million downloads, despite its lack of a worldwide server. Number three on the list is the aforementioned Evangelion: 3.0+1.0 Thrice Upon a Time movie. When the movie launched in August 2021, it became the most-watched video on its debut day.
Momotaro Dentetsu: Showa, Heisei, Reiwa mo Teiban! is number 14 and Tokyo Revengers is number 19. Momotaro Dentetsu has appeared on many similar lists in the past. It was the third most downloaded Nintendo Switch game in the first half of 2021, and it was also on Famitsu’s Top 30 Best Selling Games in Japan. In addition, it won an Award for Excellence during the Japan Game Awards 2021.
